Our new Vivint doorbell camera has the same connection issues. I once again called Vivint and was told that we would need to have a repeater installed between the camera and the panel. The panel shows that the signal strength on the camera is above 90%. Vivint said that they will charge another $49 service call fee to have a repeater installed. I argued that the system was not installed properly if we needed a repeater, but they will not waive the fee. Vivint said if we would have needed the repeater within 120 days they would have replaced it for free, but we are outside of that timeframe. During that 120 day timeframe Vivint customer service was having us reset the camera. I really like this doorbell camera and how it integrates with my ADT system. Some notes on installation: 1 My mounting plate was slightly different than the one shown here as it had three slots for mounting screws as opposed to the two shown here. I used three screws to mount the plate. 2 I found routing the two existing doorbell wires to the connecting screws a little tricky.

Police say the cameras can serve as a digital neighborhood watch. Critics also say Ring, a subsidiary of Amazon, appears to be marketing its cameras by stirring up fear of crime at a time when it’s decreasing. Amazon’s promotional videos show people lurking around homes, and the company recently posted a job opening for a managing news editor to “deliver breaking crime news alerts to our neighbors. ”“Amazon is profiting off of fear,” said Chris Gilliard, an English professor at Michigan’s Macomb Community College and a prominent critic of Ring and other technology that he says can reinforce race barriers. Part of the strategy seems to be selling the cameras “where the fear of crime is more real than the actual existence of crime. ”Ring would not disclose the number of communities with such partnerships.
